The biggest cricket celebration of the year is all set to get underway in Nepal as we are days away from the commencement of the inaugural Nepal Premier League (NPL), which will kick-off on November 30 (Saturday) in Kirtipur.
The near month-long competition will feature as many as eight teams participating, with the final happening on December 21. The entirety of the brand new league will be played at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
In a format identical to the Indian Premier League (IPL), the top four teams will qualify for the playoffs, which will begin from December 18. While the winner of Qualifier 1 (1 v 2) will progress directly to the final, the winner of the Eliminator (3 v 4) will then face off against the loser of Qualifier 1 for a place in the final.
The inaugural NPL is set to feature some huge names, with the biggest of them all being India’s Shikhar Dhawan, who will be representing the Karnali Yaks. Martin Guptill, James Neesham, Ben Cutting, Unmukt Chand and Ravi Bopara are some of the other notable overseas names set to participate in the eight-team event, which will also feature all the marquee Nepal names.
