Shreyas Iyer has been on a trophy-winning spree in 2024. Under his leadership, Mumbai recently won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024, beating Madhya Pradesh in the final in Bengaluru.
At the start of the year, Iyer was part of the Mumbai team that won the Ranji Trophy. The right-handed batter then led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Iyer was also a member of the Irani Cup-winning Mumbai team.
Iyer wasn’t retained by KKR but managed to collect a whopping amount of INR 26.75 crore from Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
"Surreal feeling after winning Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. A lot of hard work took place behind the scenes. The boys were tremendous with their performance. Now we are done with this part," Iyer said in a video uploaded on Punjab Kings' official social media handles.
“Super excited to be part of Punjab Kings. I cannot wait to join the Punjab Kings family. It's been a great year for me to win four trophies. My main goal is to win the IPL trophy for Punjab”
Iyer is once again looking forward to working with former Australia captain Ricky Ponting. The latter was the head coach of the Delhi Capitals when Iyer was with the franchise. Ponting is now the head coach of Punjab Kings.
"I can understand what the feelings must be among the fans. With Ricky coming in, we have shared a great camaraderie from the past. We would be putting our thinking caps on and brainstorming on many aspects. Hopefully, we will deliver from the match one.”
