Mumbai batter Musheer Khan, who was involved in a car accident on September 28 (Saturday) is expected to be out of action for at least three months. The doctors have confirmed that the 19-year-old is stable. Musheer was travelling with his father from Azamgarh to Lucknow, where he was due to take field for Mumbai in the Irani Cup against Rest of India, starting October 1. He will not just miss the tournament, but also the start of the Ranji Trophy season, which gets underway from October 11 onwards.
His father Naushad Khan escaped with minor scratches after the car overturned after hitting a divider.
"Cricketer Musheer Khan, injured in a road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway, was brought to the emergency department of Medanta Hospital due to pain in his neck. His treatment is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Dharmendra Singh, Director of the Department of Orthopaedics," Dr. Bhola Singh, Medical Superintendent at Medanta Hospital, Lucknow, said in a statement
"His condition is stable and he is out of danger."
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the BCCI too are keeping a close eye on his progress.
"He has sustained a fracture in the neck region and is under close observation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) medical teams are closely monitoring his progress to ensure he receives the best possible care," the MCA said.
"Once Musheer is deemed medically fit for travel, he will be flown to Mumbai for further evaluation and additional medical treatment. The timeline for his recovery will be determined following these assessments."
Musheer, the younger brother of Test batter Sarfaraz Khan, has been in excellent form, having already notched up three centuries in his nine first-class matches. He scored a scintillating 181 in the first-round game of the Duleep Trophy 2024 in Bengaluru before fizzling out in the next two matches.
