Morne Morkel has resigned as the bowling coach of the Pakistan Men’s team. The former South Africa fast bowler joined the Pakistan team on a six-month contract in June this year, and his first assignment with the men’s team was their tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board will announce his replacement in due course," PCB said in a press release.
Pakistan had a very underwhelming World Cup campaign in India, winning just four out of nine games. They were in contention to make it to the semi-finals, but New Zealand's win over Sri Lanka in their last league game proved to be costly for the Asian side.
Pakistan's one of the biggest problems turned out to be the underwhelming performance of their bowlers. They conceded 38.9 runs per wicket while having an economy rate of 6.3. Haris Rauf had a forgettable tournament, having conceded the highest number of runs conceded by any bowler in the history of World Cups. Their spinners never really turned up.
With Pakistan's next assignment being a three-match Test series against Australia scheduled to take place from December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024, in Australia, PCB will have the time to find a new bowling coach while having a complete assessment of their standing at the moment.
