Mominul becomes second Bangladesh batter to record Test ton in India

With this century, Mominul (13) is now two clear of Rahim (11) in the all-time list of leading Test centurions for Bangladesh

Mominul Haque became the second Bangladesh player after Mushfiqur Rahim (in Hyderabad 2017) to smash a Test hundred in India. The left-hander, who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Sunday (September 30th), achieved the feat in the morning session of the fourth day of the Kanpur Test.

With this century, Mominul (13) is now two clear of Rahim (11) in the all-time list for Test hundreds for Bangladesh.

Remarkably, all 13 of Mominul’s Test centuries have come in Asia. Since his Test debut back in March 2013, Dinesh Chandimal (14) is the only other batter in the entire world to have smashed more tons in Asia.

Most 100s in Asia since Mominul Haque's debut in Tests

14 - Dinesh Chandimal

13 - Mominul Haque

13 - Virat Kohli

13 - Dimuth Karunaratne

11 - Dhananjaya de Silva

This was a knock of the highest quality from the former Bangladesh skipper. He was batting on 40* when play finally resumed after two washed out days, and was up against a fresh Indian pace attack that was making life difficult for the batters on a dicey pitch.

Mominul saw Mushfiqur fall to Jasprit Bumrah in just the sixth over of the day, and soon both Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das also followed suit inside the first session.

However, the left-hander stood firm and thrived by transferring the pressure back on to the Indian bowlers.

What was mighty impressive was the way he took the attack to Ravichandran Ashwin. Mominul had been bowled by Ashwin in the second innings in Chennai, but here he swept the veteran off-spinner off his line and length. Mominul faced 22 balls of Ashwin in the morning session of Day 4 and collected 18 runs, smashing three boundaries.

He was also positive against Ravindra Jadeja, against whom he smashed two fours and a six in the morning session. Against Jadeja, the left-hander struck at 63.6.

Mominul went to lunch unbeaten on 102, thereby helping Bangladesh avoid an early morning collapse.
