Mohammed Shami is full package, better than Jasprit Bumrah: Andy Roberts

Roberts not only called Shami better than Bumrah but also added that Mohammed Siraj is in no way near Shami’s brilliance

West Indian great Andy Roberts called Mohammed Shami far better than Jasprit Bumrah, even though the latter has had more wickets recently and has garnered praise from all quarters of the game.

“Shami has been India’s best bowler for a while. He may not get the wickets Bumrah gets, but he’s the full package,” Roberts was quoted as saying by Mid-day.

Praising the Indian pacer who is recovering from an injury and has not played for the national team since November 2023, Roberts added, “[Shami] is more consistent than the rest. He swings the ball, seams the ball and his control is as good as Bumrah’s.”

However, it was the last comment made by the West Indian great, who picked up 889 wickets in 228 first-class games, that summed up the Indian bowling’s strength at the moment. “Shami should play. Mohammed Siraj is nowhere near Shami,” Roberts said.

On his return trail, Shami has so far appeared in a Ranji Trophy match and played eight T20s, guiding Bengal to the quarterfinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, where they will face up against Baroda on December 11 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
