Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has been banned from bowling after biomechanical testing in Lahore confirmed that his action was indeed illegal, after being reported during his Big Bash League (BBL) stint with Sydney Thunder this season.
Hasnain made an explosive start to his BBL career, which started with a triple wicket maiden against the Adelaide Strikers, in a match he finished with figures of 3 for 20. As a result of this ban, Hasnain will no longer be allowed to bowl in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and also Australia's tour of Pakistan next month.
Hasnain is currently part of the Quetta Gladiators' set-up and has picked up three wickets in as many matches this season so far.
While the length of Hasnain's ban remains unclear, he will have to prove once again that his bowling matches the standards set by the ICC. If he he were to fail again, it could led to an automatic one-year ban.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) says that it will work with Hasnain and get him back in action as quickly as possible.
"The PCB has discussed the report with its own bowling experts and is confident that the problem can be resolved. The PCB will now appoint a bowling consultant who will work with Mohammad Hasnain so that he can rectify his bowling action and be ready for a reassessment," a PCB statement read.
"Hasnain is an asset for Pakistan and one of the very few bowlers to consistently click 145kph. As such, and keeping his future and Pakistan's interest at the forefront, the PCB, on the recommendation of the HBL PSL 2022 Technical Committee, has decided he will not be allowed to continue to participate in the HBL Pakistan Super League.
"Instead, he will use this time to work with the PCB-appointed bowling consultant to modify his bowling action so that he can apply for a reassessment and become eligible to return to international cricket as quickly as practically possible."
Hasnain, who made his debut in an ODI against Australia in 2019, has played 26 white-ball matches for his country so far.
