MCA rewards Mumbai team with INR 80 Lakh bonus for SMAT title win

As a result of this announcement made by the MCA, the Mumbai cricket team, which received INR 80 Lakh as a winners’ prize from the BCCI will now have INR 1.6 Cr in prize money

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) matched the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s prize money for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024 winning team.

As a result of this announcement made by the MCA on December 16 (Monday), the Mumbai cricket team, which was scheduled to receive INR 80 Lakh as a winners’ prize from the BCCI after their thrilling win over Madhya Pradesh in the final of SMAT on December 15 (Sunday), will now be getting INR 1.6 Cr, a hike of 100 per cent.

“We have built a mindset in the dressing room and on the field that no matter whatever situation we are put in, we are going to face it head-on,” Sportstar quoted Shreyas Iyer, the captain of the winning Mumbai side during the felicitation ceremony at the MCA headquarters in Mumbai.

Mumbai, which became the Ranji Trophy champions in March 2024, have now won the Irani Cup and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, making it a domestic treble in the calendar year. With the Vijay Hazare Trophy left to be played, they could complete a domestic slam, holding all the trophies at the same time. It is a feat that has not been achieved ever since the introduction of SMAT in the year 2007.

“As they say, take the bull by its horns and that’s what we have been doing throughout the season and hopefully we maintain the same momentum throughout,” Iyer said about the domestic heavyweight’s plans moving forward.
