Marco Jansen set the record for the fastest T20 International (T20I) fifty against India on November 13. He got to the landmark off just 16 deliveries, which he achieved in the third T20I against India at the SuperSport Park, Centurion. The all-rounder beat Cameron Green's record, who scored a half-century against India off just 19 balls in Hyderabad in 2022.
26 of his runs came in a single over, which was bowled by Hardik Pandya in the 19th over of the chase when there was 51 needed off the last two overs. This is Jansen's maiden T20I fifty and fourth in T20 cricket. Before this innings, his highest T20I score was 21*. His highest T20 score of 71* off 31 deliveries came against Paarl Royals in the SA20 earlier this year.
Coming back to the match, Jansen was the most economical bowler for his team conceding just 28 runs from his four overs, and also picked up the wicket of Sanju Samson off the first over of the match.
However, his all-round effort went in vain as Arshdeep Singh held his nerve in the final over to help India to an 11-run victory. As a result, India have taken a 2-1 lead in the four-match series.
Earlier in the match, a superb century by Tilak Varma and a fifty by Abhishek Sharma helped India to 219/6 - their highest T20I total in South Africa.
The two teams will lock horns in the fourth and final match of the series on November 15 (Friday).
