Mahela Jayawardene steps down as Sri Lanka’s consultant coach

On June 26, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that Jayawardene stepped down from his role

Two years after taking up the role, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed on June 26 (Wednesday) that Mahela Jayawardene has stepped down as the country’s consultant coach.

"Jayawardena, during his tenure, helped implement significant changes to the structure of the national team ecosystem and the High-Performance Center," said a statement from the board.

However, the board did not reveal the reason behind Jayawardene’s resignation from the system. It comes after Sri Lanka failed to qualify for the Super 8s, finishing with just one win in the entire T20 World Cup 2024, beating the Netherlands by 83 runs.

"Sri Lanka Cricket takes this opportunity to wish Mahela all the best in his future endeavors and thank him for the services he rendered during his tenure," they further added.
