Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named Shamar Joseph as a replacement for England pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Joseph will join LSG for INR 3 Crore.
In 2023, Wood returned to IPL after a gap of five years and impressed with 11 wickets from four games, but then he left the tournament for some rest and later was ruled out of the tournament. LSG were pinning their hopes on him to do well this season, but Wood decided not to return for the 2024 edition.
It is learnt England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wanted to manage his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.
Meanwhile, Joseph was recently at the forefront during West Indies’ Test win at the Gabba. Joseph picked up seven wickets in the second innings to script a historic win in Australia for West Indies in Brisbane despite an injury to his toe. Despite being a greenhorn in T20 cricket, LSG are hoping the pacer to adopt to the shortest format of the game.
