Lucknow franchise to be called ‘Lucknow Super Giants’

The announcement was made today on the franchise’s official Twitter account

Team owner of the Lucknow-based IPL Franchise, Dr. Sanjiv Goenka, has confirmed that the franchise will be called ‘Lucknow Super Giants’. The announcement was made today on the franchise’s official Twitter account by Dr. Sanjiv Goenka himself, who confirmed that, after going through all the suggestions that came the franchise’s way, they decided to go ahead with the Lucknow Super Giants name.

The name is a callback to the previous franchise in the IPL owned by the RP-Sanjiv Goenka group, which was called ‘Rising Pune Supergiant’.

One of the two new franchises, the RP-SG group successfully picked up ownership of the franchise via a record INR 7,090 crore bid. Last week, the franchise confirmed KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi as the three initial player picks. The team will be captained by Rahul, who across the last two seasons led the Punjab Kings.
