Stand out performers
Shanaka’s all-round show
Dasun Shanaka had a forgettable T20 World Cup 2024, but on July 1 (Monday) he turned up with both bat and ball to propel Kandy Falcons to a six-wicket victory against Dambulla Sixers. He removed three of the top four batters and in a stiff chase of 180, he clobbered 46* off 15 to take his side home with 16 balls to spare.
Chandimal’s clobbers six fours in a row
Dinesh Chandimal started off the tournament with a superb 40-ball 65 against Dambulla Sixers, and in the next game against Colombo Strikers, he launched into Chamika Karunaratne, smashing five fours off his over. While he did not complete the set in that over, it was nevertheless six fours in six balls for Chandimal, who had smashed the last ball of Binura Fernando's over to the boundary.
Shadab turns fortunes around
Shadab Khan has been under the pump for below-par performances for Pakistan, and until the start of LPL, he went five matches without taking a wicket. That changed against Kandy Falcons as he finished with a hat-trick, registering figures of 4/22.
If that was not good enough, he finished with figures of 4/21 against Galle Marvels in the very next match. However, Colombo Strikers fell seven runs short in the end.
KJP, remember the name!
After a duck against Kandy Falcons, Kusal Perera made up for it by smashing the fastest century in LPL history, getting there in just 50 deliveries.
He hit five big ones and 10 fours, finishing unbeaten on 102 off 52 in the end. Did Sri Lanka miss out on his services at the T20 World Cup 2024?
Avishka’s rescue act
Perera may have scored a ton, but it was Avishka Fernando’s brilliant knock of 80 off 34 deliveries that carried Jaffna Kings home on the last ball. He walked in at 36/2 and watched silently from the other end as his side was reduced to 36/3. That’s when Avishka unleashed his wrath, smashing six sixes and seven fours, putting on 134 off just 66 with Charith Asalanka (50).
How did the teams fare in the power blast overs?
*Power blast overs refer to the 16th and 17th over of each innings.
