Laxman to fill in for Gambhir as head coach for South Africa T20Is: Reports

The former India batter will be accompanied by assistant coaches Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Sairaj Bahutule and Subhadeep Ghosh

VVS Laxman will once again be filling in for an India head coach, this time Gautam Gambhir. The head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Laxman, will be in charge of the Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav during the T20I tour of South Africa.

If reports in Cricbuzz are to be believed, then the four-match series which precedes the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under will see Laxman leave his NCA duties and don the cap of India’s head coach, as he had done previously on India’s tour of Ireland in 2023 among other tours.

The four T20Is will be played in Durban, Gqebera, Centurion and Johannesburg on November 8, 10, 13 and 15, respectively, and the Men in Blue will leave for the Rainbow Nation on November 4.

Sairaj Bahutule, who accompanied the Indian senior men’s team on the Sri Lanka tour and filled in for Morne Morkel as India’s bowling coach, will continue to play that role on his tour of South Africa as well.

He will be accompanied by Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh, who are part of the coaching staff under Laxman even at the NCA.

India’s T20I squad for South Africa series

Suryakumar Yadav (c), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ramandeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Avesh Khan, Yash Dayal.
