Prithvi Shaw was having the time of his life in the ongoing One-Day Cup competition in England for Northamptonshire, but his stint has been cut short due to a knee injury.
The Indian opener got injured while fielding against Durham on Sunday and subsequent scan results received this morning have revealed the injury is worse than initially expected.
The 23-year-old departs as the competition’s leading run-scorer, chalking up 429 runs across four innings. The right-hander slammed 244 off 153 balls against Somerset, the second-highest List A score in England.
In the remaining three innings, Shaw managed scores of 34, 26 and 125*. According to the media release, Shaw is now under the guidance of the BCCI and will see a specialist in London on Friday.
"In his short stint, Prithvi has made a huge impact on us as a club. It's a huge shame he won't be with us for the remainder of this comp," head coach John Sadler said.
"He's an extremely humble young man, he's very respectful and had been so grateful for the opportunity to represent Northamptonshire. As well as his performances on the field he had a huge impact in our dressing room.
“Nobody wanted to win games more than him and he contributed to us doing so. We wish him well and hope to see him scoring runs again soon."
