South Africa have announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming four-match T20I series against India, scheduled from November 8 to November 15. Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, and David Miller will return to the T20I side for the first international series of the home summer whereas Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen have also been included in the squad after completing their structured conditioning blocks.
Head Coach Rob Walter has handed a maiden T20I call-up for Mihlali Mpongwana, who lit up this season’s CSA T20 Challenge with 12 wickets at an average of 14.08. Uncapped all-rounder Andile Simelane, who was part of the squad that toured the United Arab Emirates in September, will also join the squad.
In big news, neither Kagiso Rabada nor Lungi Ngidi will be part of the series. While Rabada has been rested, Ngidi was not considered for selection as he undertakes a conditioning block in preparation for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins later in November.
“It’s both an exciting and important series for us as we continue to build towards the T20 World Cup in 2026. The squad has a nice mix of youth and experience, and I am looking forward to seeing us deliver some quality performances against a very attacking Indian T20 outfit," Rob Walter said.
“We continue to drive our broader priorities of exposing our high-potential players to quality opposition as we look to widen our base of internationally ready players, whilst at the same time understanding that our main objectives, as always are to play a brand of cricket that excites our supporters and wins games of cricket for South Africa.”
Currently, Keshav Maharaj, skipper Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs are in Bangladesh for the ongoing Test series and will join the squad on November 6. The rest of the squad will convene in Durban on November 4.
The Kingsmead Stadium will host the first match of the series on November 8 before the two sides head to Gqeberha for the second match at St George’s Park on November 10. The series then moves to SuperSport Park in Centurion on November 13 and wraps up at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on November 15.
