The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have appointed Kieron Pollard as the assistant coach for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, set to take place in the West Indies and the USA. The former West Indies captain, who retired from international cricket last year, was a part of the West Indies' 2012 World Cup-winning squad.
"Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has been appointed to the England Men's coaching team for next year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States. Pollard will join the England Men's team specifically for the T20 World Cup as an assistant coach and to provide expertise of local conditions," ECB said in a press release.
Pollard is a part of the Mumbai Indians coaching staff as the batting coach and is considered one of the greatest T20 players of all-time. The understanding of West Indies conditions that he brings to the table is what the defending champions are banking on currently. It was in the West Indies where England secured their first global title of any kind and with Pollard by the side, they would be aiming to add their third T20 World Cup title to the kitty.
The upcoming edition of the World Cup is going to be vastly different from the previous one, with as many as 20 teams taking part in the tournament which will take place between June 4 to 30.
