Keeping wickets last season gave me more confidence: Anuj Rawat

The 24-year old will look to continue his impressive form with the bat following his 25-ball 48 in the previous game against CSK

Anuj Rawat played a gem of an innings in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) first match against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season opener in Chepauk. He scored 48 in quick time to give his side a chance in the game. Rawat, who has taken over the wicketkeeping gloves from Dinesh Karthik, revealed that standing behind the wickets for a couple of games last season gave him more confidence, and he looks forward to putting that into play this time.

"The communication has been very clear to me as in batting down the order. As someone keeping wickets, you have to bat in the middle-order a lot," Rawat said in a press conference ahead of RCB's match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on March 25 (Monday).

"Last season also, I kept wickets in a few games, and it gave me more confidence, and as this season goes on, I am looking forward to contributing more as a wicketkeeper-batsman," he further added.

RCB will play their first IPL 2024 game at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium against PBKS. While the 24-year old is confident of putting up a better show, he understands the value of home victories. "We are following the same process as the last match [against CSK]. We are looking forward to our home games and hoping to win all of them."

RCB play their next three games at home, starting with the game against PBKS. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR, March 29) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG, April 6) visit their shores next, followed by an away fixture against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 6 to round off the first phase of the tournament.
