Kane Williamson to miss Mumbai Test against India

The veteran batter is hoping to be fit for the home series against England, starting November 28

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed on October 29 that their star batter, Kane Williamson, will miss the third and final Test against India in Mumbai. Williamson, who missed the first two Tests, is believed to be making good progress with his recovery from a groin injury, but the team management is taking a cautious approach.

The veteran batter is expected to be fit for the home Tests against England, which will begin on November 28. “Kane continues to show good signs but isn’t quite ready to jump on a plane and join us,” head coach Gary Stead said.

“While things are looking promising, we think the best course of action is for him to stay in New Zealand and focus on the final part of his rehabilitation so he’ll be good to go for England.

“The England series is still a month away, so taking the cautious approach now will ensure he is ready for the first Test in Christchurch.”

New Zealand have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the Test series against India, making them the first overseas team in 12 years to win a Test series in the country. They will look to complete a clean sweep in Mumbai and stay in the hunt for a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

The third Test gets underway on November 1 (Friday) at the Wankhede Stadium.
