Kamindu, Vandersay replace Hasaranga and Shiraz in Sri Lanka's XI for second ODI

The hosts are forced to make a change after Wanindu Hasaranga was ruled out of the series

After a thrilling tie, India and Sri Lanka renew their rivalry at the Premadasa Stadium for the second ODI on August 4 (Sunday).

Both teams had their chance to win the first ODI, with India having the advantage after reducing Sri Lanka to 142/6 before Dunith Wellalage’s 65-ball 67 took them to 230.

Thanks to Rohit Sharma’s belligerent batting, India were quick off the box but later found themselves in a rut in the middle overs against spin. Just when it seemed like Shivam Dube got them over the line, skipper Charith Asalanka delivered the killer blow to end the match in a tie.

Both teams must have been eyeing to bat first after the result in the first ODI. Asalanka won the toss, and did not think one second before opting to bat first.

Record in Colombo (last four years)

Team batting first: 9 wins

Team bowling first: 9 wins

No Result/Tie: 2

What did the captains say?

Sri Lanka captain Asalanka: We will bat first. I think so, it's looks similar to the other day. Not much different as a captain for this game. Kamindu and Vandersay come in.

India captain Rohit Sharma: It's okay, we know what to expect when we chase. It has to be. You cannot always go and play with the same mindset and same way. You got to adapt to the conditions and then play freely. That's the most important thing we want to do as a team. Same XI.

What are the changes?

Two changes for Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Mohamed Shiraz are out as Kamindu Mendis and Jeffrey Vandersay replace them in the XI.

Sri Lanka XI: Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis (wk), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka (c), Janith Liyanage, Kamindu Mendis, Dunith Wellalage, Akila Dananjaya, Asitha Fernando, Jeffrey Vandersay

However, for Team India, there are absolutely no changes.

India XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj

The pitch report

"It's a very warm afternoon. It's dry. It's very similar to the pitch we played on a couple of days ago. There are lots of cracks. The worry is the gaps between the cracks—they are quite wide. Anyone running on the pitch will cause the cracks to get worse," says Russell Arnold at the toss.
