Kagiso Rabada becomes fastest bowler to 300 Test wickets

Rabada became the fastest bowler (in terms of balls) to reach 300 Test wickets

Kagiso Rabada continued to raise the bar for pace bowling, scalping his 300th Test wicket after just 11,817 deliveries, becoming the fastest-ever bowler to reach the milestone. The South African pacer reached the milestone in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh when he picked up Mushfiqur Rahim

It made him the third-quickest South African to reach the milestone in terms of matches, only behind the legendary figures of Dale Styen and Allan Donald, who reached there in 61 and 63 matches, respectively.

When it comes to balls taken to get to the landmark, Rabada rules the roost, with Pakistan’s Waqar Younis (12,602) the closest to him. Steyn (12,622), Donald (13,690) and Malcolm Marshall (13,755) complete the list of fastest to the landmark in terms of balls.

Interestingly, Rabada has the best strike rate for any bowler to have picked up 300 Test wickets. He strikes at 39.2, quicker than Steyn (42.3) and Younis (43.4). The South African pacer finished with figures of 3/26, taking his tally to 302 Test wickets, helping the Proteas bowl Bangladesh out for 106.

It was Bangladesh’s third-lowest total in the first innings of a home Test, after 87 all-out against Pakistan and 102 all-out against South Africa back in 2003.
