Australia have suffered another blow, even before the start of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Adelaide. On November 30 (Saturday), their premier pacer Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the Adelaide Test, starting December 6.
For the only day-night Test of the five-match series, which India lead after a thumping 295-run win in the first Test at Perth, Australia added two pacers Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett to the squad as reinforcement. The Aussies already have Scott Boland in the squad as a spare pacer. Boland, who is returning from injury, has only played two first-class games since April but the 35-year-old is in line to replace Hazlewood given he is the next cab off the rank.
The Aussies had to already add a replacement for Mitchell Marsh, who was not feeling 100 per cent after the Perth game. Beau Webster was added to the hosts’ squad for the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide.
It will be the first time that Hazlewood will not be part of a home Test against India. He was Australia’s best exponent in the losing cause at Perth, picking 5/34 across the two innings as India lost only 16 wickets in the match.
