Joe Root continues to be undisturbed at the top of the ICC Test batter rankings after he amassed 375 runs in the recently concluded three-match series against Sri Lanka. But his rating has seen a fall from 922 rating points to 899.
The right-handed batter, who surpassed Sir Alastair Cook’s record of 33 tons, became the most successful batter of this current generation, going past both Kane Williamson and Steve Smith’s tally of 33 tons. Similarly, Harry Brook too has fallen seven places to 12th on the list.
However, it is all good news for the Sri Lankan batting unit, with as many as three batters—Dhananjaya de Silva, Kamindu Mendis, and Pathum Nissanka—moving up the rankings. Silva moved to 13th, and Mendis to 16th.
In the bowling department, however, Lahiru Kumara has moved to 32nd on the list. England quick Olly Stone, too, has seen a rise to 74th on the back of a three-wicket haul in the first innings of the third Test at The Oval.
