Jayden Seales registers most economical figures in Tests since 1977

The right-arm seamer from West Indies registered figures of 4/5 in 15.5 overs

West Indies’ Jayden Seales created history on day two of the second Test against Bangladesh at Sabina Park by bowling the most economical spell (minimum 60 deliveries) in Test cricket since 1977.

West Indies bowled Bangladesh out for just 164, with Seales registering figures of 4/5 in 15.5 overs. The right-arm seamer operated at an economy of 0.31.

Only six other bowers have bowled at a better economy than him in the history of Test cricket (at least 60 deliveries). Seales bowled 10 maidens in the innings and didn’t concede a single boundary.

That’s not it, Seales also dismissed Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. In reply, West Indies ended day two at 70/1 in 37 overs, trailing by only 94 runs with nine wickets in hand.

The 23-year-old has had a fantastic start to his Test career, having already claimed 71 wickets in 31 innings at an average of 21.97 and a strike rate of 38.24. He also has two five-wicket hauls in this format.
