Issy Wong returns to England's T20I squad for Women's Ashes

England have announced a strong 16-member squad for the T20I leg of the Women's Ashes series, with Issy Wong returning to the side after missing out in the T20 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year. 

The 21-year-old impressed with her performances in the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League, where she scalped 15 wickets in 10 innings at a strike rate of 13 and an economy rate of 6.4 runs per over. 

Her heroics with the ball helped Mumbai lift the coveted trophy and also paved her way back into the national set-up. 

"We’re really looking forward to our IT20s in the next part of our Ashes Series. Issy Wong returns to the T20 squad after her success in the Women's Premier League with Mumbai Indians, and it will be exciting to see how she has progressed and grown from those experiences," stated Head Coach Jon Lewis in a press release. 

Along with the pacer, Danielle Gibson has also earned her maiden call-up in the squad. The all-rounder travelled with the team for the World Cup as a travelling reserve and was also part of the one-off Test squad last week. 

“Danielle Gibson is selected for the first time in our IT20 squad. She is in great form at the regional level and has the potential to impact the game whenever she is called upon," he further added. 

England will lock horns against Australia on Saturday, July 1, for the first T20I game at Edgbaston, followed by the second and third fixtures on Wednesday, June 5, at Kia Oval and Saturday, June 8, at Lord's.
