Ishan Kishan will play for Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu All-India Invitational Tournament, which will start on August 15 in Chennai. According to a report in News18, Kishan has confirmed his availability for the red-ball competition, which will prepare him for the upcoming domestic season.
“Yes, Ishan Kishan is going to play for Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu tournament. It is a prestigious tournament where all top red-ball teams come and play. The conditions are challenging, and it’s the right way to prepare yourself for the long domestic grind ahead,” said a source aware of the development.
On August 4, a report suggested that Kishan will be available for the entire domestic season. When Kishan opted for a break from international cricket ahead of the South Africa tour last year, he did not turn up to play for Jharkhand in domestic cricket and was consequently axed from BCCI's central contract.
Kishan didn’t make himself available for his state side during his national team absence and went to Baroda to prepare for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. It’s now being reported that someone from the BCCI has advised him to play for Jharkhand in the upcoming domestic season, which will help him get back into the national set-up.
Kishan has played two Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is, scoring more than 1,800 runs. The left-hander also has a double century in the 50-over format. Kishan last played for India in November 2023.
India's domestic fixtures begin with the Duleep Trophy on September 5. However, it will be interesting to see if Kishan is considered for the four-team tournament.
Meanwhile, Delhi won’t be available for the Buchi Babu Tournament. They finished as the runners-up last season but will be busy with the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League, starting on August 17.
