Ishan Kishan to play for Jharkhand in upcoming domestic season

It’s being reported that someone from the BCCI has advised him to play for his state side, which will help him get back into the national set-up.

The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter, Ishan Kishan has been named in Jharkhand’s pre-season probables. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the 26-year-old has made himself available for the upcoming domestic season and could also be given a leadership role.

When Kishan opted for a break from international cricket ahead of the South Africa tour last year, he did not turn up to play for Jharkhand in domestic cricket and was consequently axed from BCCI's central contract.

Kishan didn’t make himself available for his state side during his absence from the national team and went to Baroda to prepare for the Indian Premier League 2024.

It’s now being reported that someone from the BCCI has advised him to play for Jharkhand in the upcoming season, which will help him get back into the national set-up.

Kishan has played two Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is, scoring more than 1800 runs. The left-hander also has a double century in the 50-over format. Kishan last played for India in November 2023.

India's domestic fixtures begin with the Duleep Trophy on September 5. However, it will be interesting to see if Kishan is considered for the four-team tournament.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand have also appointed SS Rao as the coach for the upcoming season. He replaces Debasis Mohanty. Rao played 53 first-class and 18 List A games in his 13-year career.
