In what comes as a major surprise, the BCCI have not only announced dates for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) four months in advance, but have also released dates for each of the next three IPL seasons.
According to both Cricbuzz and ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI communicated to franchises on the morning of November 22 (Friday) that the 2025 edition of the IPL will run from March 14 to May 25.
If these are the confirmed dates, there will only be a five-day turnaround between the 2025 Champions Trophy and IPL 2025. The Champions Trophy is slated to be played from February 19 to March 9, though it’s unclear where the competition will take place.
In the same e-mail, the BCCI are believed to have told the franchises that IPL 2026 will run from March 15 to May 31 while IPL 2027 will be played from March 14 to May 30.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the 2025 edition of the competition will consist of 74 matches, the same as the last three seasons.
The auction for IPL 2025 will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), led by Shreyas Iyer, won the 2024 edition of the competition.
