Former India all-rounder S Sriram has been appointed as the assistant coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Sriram and head coach Justin Langer worked together with Australia, where they helped the side to a T20 World Cup title and also won the 2021-22 Ashes. Sriram joined the Australian team in 2016 as a spin-bowling coach, and by the end of his six-year tenure, he became the side's assistant coach.
With Sriram's appointment, LSG's backroom staff is now complete. They already have Vijay Dahiya as assistant coach, Morne Morkel as bowling coach, Pravin Tambe as spin-bowling consultant, and Jonty Rhodes as fielding coach. Gautam Gambhir is the global mentor, and MSK Prasad is the overall strategic consultant.
Sriram was also the technical consultant of the Bangladesh team during the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup last year. He also temporarily took charge of the T20I side, allowing head coach Russell Domingo to focus on the other two formats briefly.
He was also the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) spin-bowling coach during IPL 2023.
LSG have made an impressive start in their two years in the IPL, having made it to the playoffs under head coach Andy Flower both years. Langer took charge of the Lucknow franchise in July this year, with Flower moving to RCB.
