India Women recorded their third-highest total in Women’s T20Is as they smashed 195/4 in their 20 overs against West Indies women at the Dr Dy Patil Sports University Stadium in Navi Mumbai on December 15 (Sunday).
Only twice before this India had India scored more than that- 201/5 vs UAE in Dambulla and 198/4 against England in Mumbai in 2018.
This was also India’s highest score in T20Is against West Indies, beating their previous best of 185/4 achieved at the Gros Islet, St Lucia in 2018.
India, after being asked to bat first by Hayley Matthews, got off to a fine start thanks to a 50-run stand between openers Uma Chetry and Smriti Mandhana. Despite Chetry succumbing to pressure built by spinner Karishma Ramharack, Mandhana continued to deal in boundaries, reaching her 28th T20I fifty.
However, Mandhana departed soon after her fifty for 54 off 33 balls. But before heading to the pavilion, she had added 81 off 44 balls with Jemimah Rodrigues.
After Mandhana’s dismissal, Rodrigues continued to pile up the run without getting noticed as Richa Ghosh did the heavy lifting in the duo’s 24-run stand-off of 15 balls. Ghosh made 20 off just 14 balls.
The 24-year-old Rodrigues took on the aggressor's role again when Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur joined her in the middle. She smashed her fastest T20I fifty and eventually made 73 off 35 before being run out in the final over.
India managed to reach 195/4 as 13 runs came in the final over.
