The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is still a few months away, but the International League T20 (ILT20) 2025 will kick start on January 11 (Saturday). There are a few players who are participating in both the tournaments:
One of the best spinners in the world, Wanindu Hasaranga, was brought by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 5.25 crore. The leg-spinner has played 26 matches in the IPL - all for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) - picking up 35 wickets at an economy rate of 8.13.
This will be his first season for Hasaranga at the ILT20, and his teammates will surely benefit from his experience. Not to forget, he is also a useful atter down the order, having slammed over 2,000 runs in the format.
West Indies batter Sherfane Rutherford was recently in the news as he had a sparkling beginning to his ODI career. He averages 71 in the format and has a century and five fifties in 10 innings. The Gujarat Titans (GT) secured his services for INR 2.6 crore, having last played in the tournament for RCB in 2022.
Rutherford has smashed close to 700 runs in T20s since the start of 2024, striking at nearly 132. But it is at the death where he is the deadliest, having struck at 162.6 in T20s since 2024.
Bought by the Mumbai Indians (MI) for INR 4.8 crore, Afghanistan spinner Allah Ghazanfar will certainly be a massive boost for the five-time IPL champions, given that they have struggled to acquire quality spinners in the past.
The 18-year-old mystery spinner, who made his Test and ODI debut last year, has yet to play T20Is for his country but has also proved his quality in the shortest format.
25 of his 29 wickets in the format have come when he has opened the bowling. He will be an asset for MI in the IPL and the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, who are already blessed with quality spinners like Gudakesh Motie and Sunil Narine, among others.
