ICC Test rankings: Yashasvi Jaiswal breaks into Top 12; Root moves to third spot

Jaiswal is now the second-highest ranked Indian in terms of Test batters

Following yet another stellar showing in the ongoing India-England series, accumulating a total of 110 runs in the fourth Test on the back of double-tons in both the second and third Test of the series, Yashasvi Jaiswal has broken into the Top 12 of the ICC Men’s Batting rankings for Tests.

Jaiswal (727 rating points) has jumped three spots to 12th, and is now the second-highest ranked Indian in terms of batters in Tests, behind Virat Kohli, who is currently 9th. Jaiswal is now only 17 points shy of Kohli and will break into the Top 10 with another solid showing in Dharamshala next week.

Rohit Sharma (13th spot) and Rishabh Pant (14th spot) are the other two Indians in the Top 15 in terms of batters.

But the biggest and the most notable mover is Dhruv Jurel, who has jumped 31 spots to 69th. Jurel, who made his debut in the third Test in Rajkot, walked away with the Player of the Match award in Ranchi for scores of 90 & 39*. On the back of the remarkable showing, the 23-year-old has broken into the Top 70.

Meanwhile, Joe Root, who after a lean patch struck his 31st Test ton in the Ranchi Test, has leapfrogged both Babar Azam and Daryl Mitchell to move to third spot in the batter’s rankings. He is 19 points shy of Steve Smith (second) 94 points shy of Kane Williamson (first).

Root has also moved up to fourth spot in the all-rounder’s rankings. Spots #1 and #2, in terms of all-rounders, are unsurprisingly occupied by Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin respectively.

In terms of bowlers, the only change in the Top 10 is James Anderson slipping two spots to drop to 10th. Anderson, after a strong start to the India series, has picked up just three wickets across the last four innings in the series.

Outside the Top 10, Ollie Robinson has dropped two spots to 13th. In the Ranchi Test, Robinson went wicketless in the first innings and did not bowl a single ball in the second innings.

In terms of T20Is, the most notable mover on either front has been Josh Hazlewood, who has jumped six spots to break into the Top 8 of the bowler’s rankings. Hazlewood enjoyed a fantastic outing in the Auckland T20I against the Kiwis, finishing with figures of 4-1-12-1.
