ICC confirms a 16-team Women’s T20 World Cup 2030

Alongside that, the ICC also issued notice to both USA Cricket and Cricket Chile for non-compliance

On July 22 (Monday), the International Cricket Council (ICC) met for their Annual Conference, where the cricketing council confirmed the expansion of the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2030 to 16 teams from 12 teams.

The board also confirmed the cut-off date for qualification for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 qualifier as 31 October 2024. Alongside that, ICC also revealed the allocation of the eight regional qualifying spots for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

“This would see two teams qualify from Africa and Europe, one from the Americas and three from a combined Asia and EAP regional final,” read ICC’s release.

Roger Twose, Lawson Naidoo, and Imran Khwaja have been appointed to conduct a thorough review of the delivery of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which took place in the Caribbean and the United States of America.

However, the ICC also confirmed that both USA Cricket and Cricket Chile have been formally put on notice, with 12 months to rectify their current non-compliance with the ICC Membership Criteria. Neither of the members have proper governance and an administrative structure in place, with USAC not having a full-time CEO and not having recognition from the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

This comes after USA’s Directors accused their chairman Venu Pisike of ‘corruption and unethical practice’.

“The Board agreed that a Normalisation Committee comprising of Board and Management representatives will be set up to oversee and monitor USA Cricket’s compliance roadmap and the ICC Board will reserve its right to suspend or expel the Member for continued non-compliance,” read ICC’s release.

The Chief Executives’ Committee also approved the appointment of Paul Reiffel to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee as the Elite Panel representative.
