Hong Kong’s Ayush Shukla becomes 3rd bowler to bowl 4 maidens in a T20I

Against Mongolia, Shukla bowled four maidens and took a wicket to finish with figures of 4-4-0-1 to join the elusive club

History was scripted at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on August 31 (Saturday) as Hong Kong pacer Ayush Shukla became just the third bowler ever and the first ever Asian to bowl four maidens in a T20I innings.

Heading into the clash, Canada’s Saad Bin Zafar and New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson had been the only bowlers to not concede a single run in a four-over spell in T20Is. While Saad did it against Panama in 2021, Ferguson achieved the feat in the T20 World Cup earlier this year against Papua New Guinea, where he registered figures of 4-4-0-3.

Today against Mongolia, Shukla bowled four maidens and took a wicket to finish with figures of 4-4-0-1 to join the elusive club.

On the day, Shukla opened the bowling and bowled an unbroken four-over spell. He started off with a wicket maiden, dismissing Bat-yalalt Namsrai, and then bowled 18 consecutive dots to script history.

Heading into the clash, the 21-year-old had played 34 T20Is and had taken 29 wickets at an economy of 8.62. But back in 2023 against Cambodia, he had bowled a spell of 3-1-3-1, showcasing his talent. In Asia Cup 2022, Shukla also famously took the wicket of India skipper Rohit Sharma.

The clash between Hong Kong and Mongolia also saw a couple of other records: the third-quickest chase in T20I history and the third-lowest total in T20Is.
