Cricket Hong Kong (CHK) has confirmed that the Hong Kong Sixes is set to return after seven years, according to a report on the South China Morning Post (SCMP). The competition will take place between November 1 and 3 at the Tin Kwong Road Cricket Ground. CHK expects as many as 12 countries to participate in the three-day event. Each team will have six players in their squad, and the match will be a five-over contest.
Cricket greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, David Warner and Shane Warne, among others, have previously participated in the tournament between 1992 and 2017. South Africa, England and Pakistan are the most successful teams, having won the competition on five occasions each.
“We are excited to bring back this iconic event that showcases our city as a truly world city and a sporting capital of East Asia to the world and our cricket credentials,” Cricket Hong Kong’s chairman Burji Shroff said.
CHK also announced a collaboration with India sports management and marketing company TCM (Twenty First Century Media Pvt. Ltd.), who have looked after the management rights and sponsorships for top-tier tournaments like the World Cup, Asia Cup and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“To build the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes into a world-class event and make this plan a reality, we have entered into a strategic partnership with TCM Sports,” Shroff said.
“This collaboration underscores a commitment to ensuring the Sixes develops into a major event in the international cricket calendar.”
South Africa, led by Sarel Erwee, won the last edition of the tournament in 2017, pipping seven other teams to the title. All the matches were played at the Kowloon Cricket Club.
