History in Brisbane: Australia notch up highest WODI total against India

Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry scored centuries as the Aussie women scored a massive total of 371/8 in the second ODI

Nothing has been going right for the Indian women in their three-match ODI series against Australia. After being plummeted by five wickets in the first ODI at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane, they conceded their highest-ever total in ODI history — 371/8 on December 8 (Sunday).

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Australia had a superb start courtesy of their 21-year-old openers Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield. They brought up the team’s century at almost a run-a-ball pace. Litchfield was sedate in comparison to Voll but still scored 60 off 63 with eight crisp fours and a six to her credit. The opening duo added 130 runs in just 116 deliveries for Australia.

Voll continued to bat brilliantly, bringing up her maiden ODI century in only her second innings in international cricket. She had a blistering partnership of 92 (78) for the second wicket with Ellyse Perry, ensuring that Australia kept extending their total. Perry was batting with immense intensity and scored the fastest-ever century (in just 72 deliveries) by any player against the Indians in ODIs.

Beth Mooney also scored 56 (44) as Australia crossed 350 with ease and ended up with 371 in 50 overs. It was a bloodbath as far as Indian bowling figures were concerned. Priya Mishra (1/88) conceded the most runs by an Indian women’s bowler in an ODI spell.
