Highest powerplay score, quickest chase in history: Australia SHATTER records

In a mind-boggling batting performance, Australia chased down 155 in just 9.4 overs, making it the quickest chase in T20I history

Playing their first T20I since the disappointment in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they crashed out in the Super 8s, Australia registered a batting performance for the ages as they scripted history, shattering several records. In a mind-boggling batting performance, Australia chased down 155 in just 9.4 overs, making it the quickest chase in T20I history, and the second quickest 150+ chase in T20s overall.

But that was far from the only record that was smashed in Edinburgh on September 4 (Wednesday).

All records that were shattered in the first T20I between Scotland and Australia:

Australia became the first team in T20I history to chase down a 150+ target in less than 10 overs.

Quickest 150+ chases in T20I history

Australia 156/3 in 58 balls vs Scotland, 2024

Oman 154/6 in 66 balls vs Cambodia, 2024

Romania 159/7 in 77 balls vs Greece, 2021

Germany 150/2 in 78 balls vs Belgium, 2023

It was also only the second instance of a 150+ target being chased under 60 balls in all T20s. The only other instance was in the clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) earlier this year in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), where SRH chased down 166 in 9.4 overs. Guess what’s common between the two games?

Well, Travis Head top scored in both clashes.

Anyway, sticking to Head, the left-hander hammered 80 off just 25 balls, at a ridiculous strike rate of 320. It’s the second-highest strike rate registered by a batter in T20I history, and the highest by a full-member batter ever.

351.21 - Sahil Chauhan vs Cyprus in 2024

320.00 - Travis Head vs Scotland in 2024

307.40 - Wintley Burton vs Bulgaria in 2022

296.66 - Mohammad Nabi vs Ireland in 2017

Head, in fact, is the only full-member batter in T20I history to face 25+ balls in an innings and still register a strike rate over 300.00.

In the same game, Head also scored the joint-fastest fifty by an Australian.

Head’s batting partner Mitchell Marsh, meanwhile, hammered Jack Jarvis for 30 runs in the fifth over of the chase, becoming only the second Aussie batter to amass 30+ runs in an over in T20Is.

Together, Marsh and Head helped Australia post the highest-ever powerplay score by a full member in T20Is.
