Whatever is in Yorkshire’s soil, it has the ability to bring out the best batters in England.
Now, not just one but two, as Harry Brook has established himself as a big threat to the opposition. On October 10, Brook showed his abilities first-hand when he smashed the second-fastest Test century in the sport's history in the first Test in Multan against Pakistan.
Brook brought up his triple century in just 310 balls, only behind Virender Sehwag’s legendary knock against South Africa in Chennai, where he brought up his triple-hundred in 278 deliveries. During his stay at the crease, Brook smashed 28 fours and three sixes before he brought up his triple century.
Fastest triple hundred in Tests
278 balls - Virender Sehwag vs South Africa in Chennai, 2008
310 balls - Harry Brook vs Pakistan in Multan, 2024*
362 balls - Matthew Hayden vs Zimbabwe in Perth, 2003
364 balls - Virender Sehwag vs Pakistan in Multan, 2004
Not just that, Brook also became the first Englishman since the legendary figure of Graham Gooch to score a triple century for the Three Lions. He was also the second-fastest to a triple century for the national team, with only Len Hutton younger than him at the time of his triple ton.
Co-incidentally, Brook became the third away batter after Virender Sehwag & Mark Taylor to score a triple ton in Pakistan. The 25-year-old walked into the Multan Test on the back of three centuries in Pakistan, and it took him one and a half days to bring up a triple ton.
Triple hundred against Pakistan in Tests
365* - Garry Sobers, Kingston, 1958
335* - David Warner, Adelaide, 2019
334* - Mark Taylor, Peshawar, 1998
309 - Virender Sehwag, Multan, 2004
300* - Harry Brook, Multan, 2024*
It is no surprise that Brook averages 154 in Pakistan, where he has amassed 773 runs, the most he has scored in any country. Not just that, his triple ton also ensured that England have the highest Test score in Pakistan, surpassing Pakistan’s 765/6 against Sri Lanka back in 2009.
