Harmanpreet rues lack of responsibility with the bat behind India's defeat

Bangladesh recorded their first ODI win against India in the opening fixture at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka

It is indeed a very special day in the history of Bangladesh cricket as they registered their maiden win against India in the fifty-over format after a comprehensive 40-run win in the first game of the three-match series.

After opting to field first, the Women in Blue restricted the home team to 152 runs in the first innings courtesy off a four-wicket haul by debutant Amanjot Kaur

However, India stuttered in the run chase as they lost Smriti Mandhana, Priya Punia and Harmanpreet Kaur inside the first ten overs. With runs hard to come by, the lower order crumbled under pressure and the visiting side were outplayed in the opening fixture.

"We didn't take responsibility and bat well. In bowling also, we were not up to the mark. Sometimes some bowlers bowl very well, but overall we are not batting up to the mark and not bowling according to our strengths," Harmanpreet Kaur said in the post-match presentation.

Despite the defeat, the Indian skipper is optimistic about the team's chances and stated, "We have done well in ODI cricket, and we have to back ourselves."

On the other hand, Nigar Sultana Joty was a happy and proud skipper as her team etched history in front of their home crowd.

"I think we were 30-40 runs short. The lower-order batters gave us some score. All credit to the bowlers, as they assessed the wicket well. It was a wonderful effort from the crowd, as they boosted up the team," she said.

Explaining the discussion at the halfway mark, Nigar revealed the idea was to pick early wickets and said, "The thing was that we wanted to got early wickets. Our plan and execution worked for us," she concluded.

The two sides will lock horns in the second ODI on Wednesday, June 19, at the same venue.
