Gillespie faces axe, Aaqib Javed to become Pakistan's all-format coach: Reports

The last T20I of the three-match series between Pakistan and Australia, to be played on November 18, could be Gillespie’s last as Pakistan’s head coach

The musical chair of Pakistan cricket to continue further as recently appointed red-ball coach Jason Gillespie, who was given the added responsibility of leading the team even on their white-ball tour of Australia, will most likely be removed from his coaching job altogether if a report from ESPN cricinfo is to be believed.

The announcement, which could be made as early as November 18 (Monday), will be a result of discussions in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which, after Gary Kirsten resigned from his role as the national team’s white-ball coach, wanted Gillespie to take over as all-format coach, but without being paid extra for the same.

Aaqib Javed, who was appointed convenor of the men's cricket selection committee earlier in October, became the board’s favourite as he was readily available to do the three-format job.

The last T20I of the three-match series between Pakistan and Australia, to be played on November 18, could be Gillespie’s last as Pakistan’s head coach. Pakistan are already trailing 0-2.

Another version on why Gillespie could be removed, says that since the Australian was not ready to spend enough time in Pakistan, the board was not happy to continue with him.

An official announcement has yet not been made either by the PCB or by Gillespie himself.
