Head to Head
This is the first clash between the two teams.
Venue Details
Venue: Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium, Florida
Turn away, the weather god has not been very kind to the games here in Florida. Thus far, no fixture has been played at the venue in this year’s T20 World Cup, and the weather isn't that great either unless it changes dramatically.
Average first innings score: 177
Bat first / Bat second split: Four out of the last six games have been won by the team batting first
Pace and spin split: Average 26.9 vs 21.1, Economy 9 vs 7.5, Percentage of wickets 54.5% vs 45.5%
Players to watch out for
Suryakumar Yadav: After the struggle against Pakistan, all eyes were on Suryakumar Yadav to bail a troubled India out in the next clash against the United States of America. He answered those calls with a typical Surya-like knock, one that saw him score a 49-ball 50, where he peppered all sides of the boundary. He could continue his good run against Canada, too, in Florida.
Arshdeep Singh: While not having the best of the Indian Premier Leagues, Arshdeep Singh has turned his fortunes with a flick of a switch. He has been a vital cog of the Indian setup in New York, with seven wickets in the competition, averaging 10.7 with the ball. Four of those seven have come in the powerplay phase, where his economy is just 5.2.
Nicholas Kirton: One of Canada’s consistent performers, Nicholas Kirton, could yet again be an integral part of their batting unit. In this tournament, Kirton has scored 101 runs in 72 deliveries and is the only Canadian batter to score over 100 runs. It isn’t just the runs with Kirton; he’s one of those rare batters to leave a mark with a strike rate of 140.3 in a team where the second-highest strike rate reads 128.6.
Key battles
Dillon Heyliger vs Indian openers
Dillon Heyliger is Canada’s best bowler in this competition, with five wickets, averaging 11. He’s one of the rare bowlers who has done well for Canada. Indian openers have struggled for momentum in this World Cup, with Virat Kohli registering three low scores, including his first T20 World Cup duck.
While Canada haven’t used him in the powerplay a lot, there is an incentive for them to bowl Heyliger more in the first six against India.
