Fakhar Zaman leaves CPL 2024 to feature in Pakistan’s Champions One-day Cup

Meanwhile, Sherfane Rutherford has withdrawn from the rest of the competition for personal reasons

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ opener Fakhar Zaman has left the ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2024 to feature in Pakistan’s Champions One-day Cup - their newly-introduced 50-over competition, which will be played from September 12 to 29.

The left-handed batter didn’t feature in the Falcons’ two-wicket win over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on September 8. In his absence, Brandon King, who returned from an injury , replaced him at the top. Zaman played five games, scoring 159 runs @ 31.80 and a strike rate of 133.61.

However, his Falcons teammates Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir will continue to play in the CPL, and so will Guyana Amazon Warriors' wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan.

Meanwhile, Patriots’ Sherfane Rutherford has withdrawn from the rest of the competition for personal reasons. The middle-order batter, who scored 35 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 194.44, didn’t play against the Falcons on September 8.

In his absence, Dominic Drakes batted at No.7 as the Patriots suffered their fifth consecutive defeat. They are currently placed at the bottom of the points table. The CPL release stated that Rutherford’s replacement will be announced in due course.

Patriots’ Kyle Mayers also left the field after bowling just two overs against the Falcons, with what looked like a hamstring injury. St Kitts and Nevis are scheduled to take on Saint Lucia Kings on September 12.
