It’s been 15 years since former Australia pacer Nathan Bracken played international cricket, but the 47-year-old has been in the news recently for the drastic switch in career he’s made.
Bracken, who celebrated his 47th birthday on September 12 (Thursday), has filled a variety of business manager roles post retirement and was an account manager at Boral Concrete until March 2024. Earlier this year, he started working with Fulton Hogan, an infrastructure construction, roadworks and aggregate supplier company.
The former fast bowler has even tried his hand in politics and was the Liberal party’s candidate for The Entrance electorate in the Sydney state elections in 2023.
Amidst the fascination over Bracken’s career change, there have been reports floating around claiming that the former speedster ‘rejected’ Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s offer of INR 1.3 crore in 2011 after getting picked in the 2011 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
However, these reports are entirely false as Bracken did not even list his name in the 2011 IPL auction.
Bracken did get picked by RCB. However, that was back in the 2008 auction. At the 2008 auction, the former Aussie pacer got picked for $325,000. As it turned out, Bracken did not make a single appearance for RCB despite getting picked in the auction in 2008.
The left-arm seamer last played for Australia in 2009 and last played professional cricket back in 2010. He was plagued by a chronic knee injury that forced him to retire prematurely. As a result of the injury, Bracken announced his retirement in January 2011, at the age of 33.
