Estonia's Sahil Chauhan smashes first sub-30 ball century in T20 history

He also smashed the record for the most sixes hit by a batter in a single T20I knock

History was created in the clash between Estonia and Cyprus at the Happy Valley Ground in Episkopi, Cyprus, as Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan smashed the fastest T20 hundred in history, getting to his ton off just 27 balls.

It’s the first sub-30 ball hundred in T20 history; the previous quickest hundred in T20s belonged to Chris Gayle, who had achieved the landmark in 30 balls in the clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Pune Warriors India (PWI) 11 years ago.

Thanks to the clash between Estonia and Cyprus also holding official T20I status, 33-year-old Chauhan also now holds the record for the fastest hundred in T20I history. The previous record (33 balls) belonged to Namibia’s Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, who set the record only four months ago, against Nepal in Kirtipur.

Sahil Chauhan’s record-breaking knock

Playing just his fourth T20I, Chauhan 144* off 41 balls to obliterate records. Batting at No.4, the right-hander scored 144 of Estonia’s 194 runs to propel the team to a six-wicket win as Estonia chased the 192 set by Cyprus with seven overs to spare.

In his knock, Chauhan broke the following records:

> Fastest hundred in T20I history (27 balls). Previous record was held by Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton (33 balls).

> Fastest hundred in T20 history (27 balls). Previous record was held by Chris Gayle (30 balls).

> Most sixes hit in a T20I innings (18).  Previous record was held by Hazaratullah Zazai (16 sixes vs Ireland in 2019).

> Joint-most sixes hit in a T20 innings (18). Chris Gayle also hit 18 sixes against Dhaka in BPL 2017.

> Highest strike rate registered by a centurion in a T20 innings (351.21). Previous best was Rishabh Pant’s 305.26 against Himachal in 2018.
