All-rounder Jacob Bethell and wicketkeeper-batter Jordon Cox will make their T20 international debut for England when the Three Lions take on Australia in the first T20I of the three-match series, beginning on September 11 (Wednesday) at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
England released the playing 11 for the game on Tuesday and named Phil Salt as their captain in the absence of regular skipper Jos Buttler, who is out with an injury.
Along with Bethell and Cox, Jamie Overton, who has already debuted for England in Tests in 2022, has been picked to make his T20I debut for the team. He has been picked as a batter despite being selected as an all-rounder during his Test debut. The 30-year-old did not bowl in The Hundred and the T20 Blast, domestic tournaments of England.
While Cox was previously called upon in the England Test side for the West Indies and Sri Lanka series, this is the maiden call-up for Bethell, who was one of the finds of the U-19 World Cup in 2022 where the English Colts made it to the final in the tournament held in the West Indies.
