The England Cricket Board (ECB) sent a press release on their official website announcing their finalised squad of 15 for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
Earlier this month, the ECB released a provisional World Cup squad, including the opener Jason Roy. However, Harry Brook’s name was missing from it.
After the New Zealand Tour of England, where the England team defeated New Zealand 3-1 in the ODI series, the selection panel met again and decided to exclude Jason Roy from the final 15 due to his back injury.
It's worth noting that Roy couldn’t take part in the New Zealand series due to the injury mentioned above, and as a result, Brook played in the XI and has now made it to the final 15.
England Men’s National Selector, Luke Wright, said: “We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Cup.
“We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team.
“The strength of the group has meant that we have had to make some tough decisions on world-class players with Jason Roy missing out and Harry Brook coming into the squad.”
The squad as announced by the ECB is as follows - Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes
