End of David Warner’s IPL career?

Warner went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

David Warner’s Indian Premier League (IPL) era might have ended as the left-handed opener went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction on November 25 (Monday) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The southpaw, who has been one of the most prolific overseas batters in IPL history, will not play the tournament for the third time since IPL’s conception.

Warner leaves behind a rich IPL legacy: 6565 runs in the tournament’s history, staggering average of 40.52, four hundreds and 62 fifties. The left-hander was instrumental in Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s amazing campaign in 2016, when they lifted the trophy, besting Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a high-scoring thriller.

The 38-year-old played for Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals before going unsold at the 2025 mega auction. In his last IPL season, the New South Wales man scored 168 runs, striking at 134.40, with one fifty.

Ironically, his last IPL clash came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for a one-ball two before he was caught in the deep midwicket region trying to take on Swapnil Singh. Warner ends with the most runs for an overseas player and is the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL's history.

Given that he’s 38, and has retired from international cricket, there’s a strong chance that Warner’s IPL career has come to an abrupt end without a farewell.
