Duleep Trophy: Dhruv Jurel equals Dhoni's record of most catches in an innings

The wicketkeeper claimed seven catches in the third innings against India B

India A’s wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel took seven catches in the third innings against India B, equalling MS Dhoni’s record for most catches in an innings in the Duleep Trophy.

Jurel equalled the record on September 8 (Sunday) when he claimed Navdeep Saini’s catch behind the stumps. Apart from Saini’s, the 23-year-old also took the catches of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Nitish Reddy and Sai Kishore.

Playing for East Zone, Dhoni also took seven catches against Central Zone in Gwalior in February 2005. And it has taken someone almost 20 years to match the feat.

Jurel only took one catch in the first innings, finishing the match with a total of eight catches. However, the record for most catches in a Duleep Trophy match belongs to Parthiv Patel. He claimed nine catches in the game against Plate A in 2003.

Jurel had a fantastic game behind the stumps but got out for just 2 in India A’s first innings. The 23-year-old made his Test debut against England earlier this year, scoring 190 runs in four innings at an average of 63.33.
