Duleep Trophy | Careless Tilak Varma suffers freak run-out at non-striker’s end

On the back of a 111, Tilak suffered a rare failure with a 32-ball five

It was a prime opportunity for the Mumbai Indians star Tilak Varma to show his prowess in the red-ball format. However, on September 19 (Thursday), the left-hander did a lot of harm to his chances when he got dismissed for a 32-ball five in the most freakish of manners.

Representing India A, Varma walked into bat at 11/1, joining hands with Mayank Agarwal. While he saw the threat of both Anshul Kamboj and Gaurav Yadav, the left-hander was quite fidgety facing Vyshak Vijaykumar, who breathed fire with the red ball in his hand. Tilak was quite cautious in his approach, without taking any undue risk.

At the other end, both Mayank and Riyan Parag couldn’t make an impact, leaving Tilak with Shashwat Rawat to rescue the side. Just as the partnership was blooming between the two, the combination of a stupendous effort from Vyshak in his follow-through and absolute laziness left Tilak red-faced.

The left-hander, who was quite close to the crease, did everything with the exception of the basic: ground his bat. It resulted in an easy dismissal for India C, who reduced India A to 35/4 inside the first three hours of play in Anantapur.
