On November 12, the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Delhi Capitals (DC) continued its restructuring, adding Munaf Patel as the bowling coach to its backroom staff. Patel was previously part of the Capitals’ sister franchise, India Capitals, at the 2024 edition of Legends League Cricket (LLC).
Earlier this season, Delhi parted ways with their Australian coach, Ricky Ponting, which kick-started the restructuring. As part of that, the franchise first roped in Tamil Nadu batter Hemang Badani as their head coach before adding Venugopal Rao.
The duo were given the entire responsibility of adding people to the backroom staff, and they picked the 2011 World Cup-winning bowler as their bowling coach. Patel will now fill the void left by James Hopes, with the former having an illustrious CV as a player.
The right-arm seamer also has experience of playing 63 IPL clashes, representing Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions, taking 74 wickets at an economy of 7.51. Since retirement in 2018, this will be Patel’s first coaching gig at any professional level, his second since LLC.
